De-icing windows

In cold weather it is common for car windows to be covered with frost and to require de-icing before driving. It is important to observe a few points to avoid damaging the glass and to ensure clear visibility.

Do not use hot water

Pouring hot water over the glass may be tempting to speed up de-icing, but it can be dangerous: thermal shock can damage the pane. Use a dedicated de-icing fluid or place a cloth over the glass instead.

Use an ice scraper

An ice scraper is an essential tool for removing ice and snow from car windows. Make sure the scraper has no sharp edges that could scratch or damage the glass.

Allow sufficient time

Plan enough time to de-ice the windows properly. If you rush, you risk overlooking important areas or failing to remove all ice.

Use a cover

If you live in a region with cold winters, consider a windshield cover. It can be laid over the glass to protect it from ice and snow; in the morning you only need to remove the cover and you can drive off immediately.
