The company is defined by its long-standing market experience and its commitment to environmental protection and stewardship of the planet. It holds that every small contribution, such as washing laundry with an ecological detergent, can have significant impact. That is precisely what the company aims to enable for its customers through cleaning with Sodasan products. From activism and love to running their own business – the story of Sodasan.
How it all began…
Jürgen Hack and Kerstin Stromberg are the company founders. Out of a shared conviction they met in the early 1980s as activists in the environmental, peace and anti-nuclear movements. Soon their shared values extended into their private relationship and comrades became partners. Since then they have followed their path together. The two launched the „sauber sauber machen“ mission, a campaign against phosphate-containing cleaners. And thus the Sodasan brand was born. A genuine ecological alternative in the market for household cleaners and detergents.
Over the years Sodasan developed a large range of natural products. In doing so the company challenges conventional cleaners on the market primarily on the basis of sustainability. The cleaning performance is not only sustainable but also excellent.
„Sauber sauber machen“ – the corporate philosophy
Sodasan has drafted its own purity code for the production of its cleaning products. In the manufacture of detergents and cleaners the company ensures only natural raw materials are used. Half of the raw materials are of organic quality.
By avoiding microplastics, petroleum and petrochemical pollutants, and genetically modified enzymes, Sodasan sets itself clearly apart from conventional cleaners on the market. The company focuses on the innovative use of nature’s cleaning power.
In doing so Sodasan makes a substantive contribution to biodiversity protection and climate mitigation. The products are mostly composed of pure vegetable-oil soap and natural fragrance oils. In contact with water, plant-based soap is neutralized and reintegrates into the natural cycle after use without causing harm. The natural ingredients also have a positive effect on user health. This can help prevent allergies and skin irritations.
Circular economy and core commitments
Through a circular economy based on the Cradle-to-Cradle concept, Sodasan aims to reduce the product waste balance to zero through natural material cycles. The East Frisian eco-company operates production in a 100 percent CO₂-neutral manner. To cover the energy demand of production, Sodasan relies on an in-house combined heat and power plant (CHP) running on wind gas and on its own photovoltaic system.
Cooperation
Through cooperation with the association PRIMAKLIMA they also support refoRESTation in Uganda to offset the small portion of CO₂ emissions that remain. The company is thus officially certified as a climate-neutral site. The products are bottled exclusively in recycled PET. By using large containers such as Bag-in-Box systems, concentrates and refill packs, up to 92 % plastic waste can be saved.
Sodasan’s products are convincing in their cleaning performance. The company has been awarded by Ökotest a total of five times for the high quality of its products.

The product range includes everything needed for cleaning in the household. All products are designed to be high-quality and sustainable and deliver strong cleaning performance in eco quality.
Washing with Sodasan – powerful cleaning for clothing of all kinds
Sodasan detergent performs cleaning, stain removal and fiber care for clothing. The wide selection of different products ensures the right cleaning and care for every wash. The detergent cleans thanks to an innovative formula with organic plant soap and soda from temperatures of 30 °C and can be used up to boiling washes at 95 °C.
Liquid detergents, sensitive and specialty detergents
The liquid detergent is available both for universal laundry and as a color detergent in the natural scents lavender and lime.
The liquid wool detergent is formulated for the specific fiber care of wool, silk and delicate fiber structures and refreshes them with a pleasantly light magnolia scent.
Sodasan also offers a suitable product for sports enthusiasts: the liquid detergent for sports and functional clothing not only neutralizes deeply embedded odors but supports gear made from microfiber or membrane in its wind- and water-resistance without reducing the breathability of the garment.
As a powder detergent, Sodasan offers both a detergent for whites with the scent of fresh lime and a color detergent. A sensitive powder detergent for allergy sufferers and people with sensitive skin is also part of the product range.
For clean and fragranced laundry Sodasan also offers fabric softeners that deliver familiar softness and scent on a plant-based basis. Ingredients such as organic aloe vera and soy lecithin provide the laundry with a pleasant wearing comfort and are suitable for sensitive skin. The softeners are available in the scents of fresh lime, calming lavender or fruity peach. In addition, Sodasan offers fragrance lovers a rinse fragrance with essential oils of lavender, magnolia, geranium and rose.
The Sodasan stain removers tackle even the most persistent stains such as blood, oil, ketchup and cocoa. By pre-treating garments with the organic plant soap, they ensure complete stain removal from clothing. They are available as stain gel or stain salt. Sodasan also offers bleach and gall soap in organic quality. Especially in households with children, the stain removers prove to be highly effective.
Sodasan cleaning agents for a spotless home in no time
The Sodasan dishwashing liquid removes oily food residues through the natural action of plant-based surfactants and organic aloe vera. At the same time it provides shine and cleanliness. The dishwashing liquid is available in the scents Lavender and Mint as well as Lemon and Lime. For dishwashers, naturally effective dishwasher tablets, powder, rinse aid and regeneration salt with an anti-limescale formula have been developed.
Furthermore, Sodasan’s product range covers all cleaners required in a household, in the highest ecological quality. This includes, for example, a concentrated all-purpose cleaner with organic plant soap and citrus power, a heavy-duty cleaner with essential oils, a glass cleaner as well as kitchen cleaners for stainless steel, Ceran and plastic, a sandalwood floor soap and a specialist cleaner for textiles, carpets and upholstery.
In addition, Sodasan’s various cleaners also provide hygiene for the bathroom: whether the bathroom cleaner with lemongrass, a natural fragrance-free glass cleaner, a vinegar cleaner in organic quality, the WC-Citrus cleaner or the WC-Kraftgel.
All Sodasan cleaning agents are also available in refill packs, concentrates and bulk containers. With the Sodasan Professional concept, the company also offers tailored solutions for commercial cleaning, for example for open-plan offices and canteens.

Sodasan’s disinfectant is highly effective against almost all viruses and bacteria. It is scent-neutral and is composed of 70 % natural organic raw materials.
