What is Sea buckthorn?
Sea buckthorn, also called Fasanbeer, Haffdorn, Seedorn and often “Zitrone des Nordens” (lemon of the North), is a plant species of the genus of sea buckthorns within the family Elaeagnaceae. In Germany, sea buckthorn preferentially grows on the North and Baltic Sea coasts. It is particularly rich in minerals, trace elements (e.g. iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc), carotenoids, unsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic and linolenic acid, beta-carotene and the vitamins B1, B2, B6, B9, C, E and H. The efficacy of sea buckthorn pulp oil and sea buckthorn seed oil is fully exploited in the Sandorini care series. The scent is fruity-fresh and invigorating, while demanding or combination skin in particular is intensively cared for. The orange berries shape the landscape along the North and Baltic Sea coasts. The oils extracted from them have a soothing, moisturizing, smoothing and regenerating effect on the skin. As a result, the aging process of the skin is delayed and the complexion appears fresher and rosier.
Sea buckthorn pulp oil and sea buckthorn seed oil
Two exceptional oils are obtained from the berry: sea buckthorn seed oil and sea buckthorn pulp oil. The pulp oil is orange, relatively low in viscosity and has the typical sea buckthorn scent. It contains a high proportion of carotenoids, which protect preventively against UV radiation, stimulate metabolism and serve as protection against free radicals. In addition, it contains a high proportion of palmitoleic acid, which has a soothing effect on irritated and stressed skin. The second sea buckthorn oil is the seed oil, which is extracted from the seeds. It is also low in viscosity but, in contrast to the pulp oil, has a yellowish color. The seed oil has a high content of linoleic and linolenic acid. These closely resemble the lipids of the upper skin layers and are therefore particularly valuable. The seed oil is highly recommended for dry, sensitive or mature skin.
