Your favorite jeans, the comfortable sofa or the cozy bed — what do your favorite items look like? Still like new, or are many stains already evidence of regular use? You will certainly want to remove the stains not only for aesthetic reasons. It is not always easy, because some stains are stubborn and hard to remove. The temptation is then great to reach for chemical, sometimes aggressive stain removers. The range of various cleaning and stain-removal products is almost unmanageably large. But do they deliver what they promise, and what about the environmental impact? A stain remover for textiles, one for leather and another for wood or floor coverings. Your cupboard will soon be full, but your wallet empty. In addition, stain removers are not particularly eco-friendly. You can remove stains sustainably and ecologically — with home remedies that are inexpensive and that you most likely already have at home.

Effective home remedies for stain removal

Home remedy No. 1: For beer stains

A pleasant evening with friends and then it happens. A moment of inattention and the beer glass tips over. You can remove beer stains with a soap solution. To do this, dissolve commercially available soap in water and add a little salmiac to it.

Home remedy No. 2: For blood stains

Blood on textiles can indeed be a small disaster. Even washing in the washing machine does not always remove it. But there is a home remedy that combats blood stains. Dissolve table salt in cold water and immediately rinse the blood stain with it. If you have blood stains on the carpet, first apply cold water to the stain and then gently rub the blood stain with an ammonia solution. You must never use warm or hot water on blood stains.

Home remedy No. 3: For egg stains

A soft-boiled egg, egg noodles or an egg spread: eggs can be prepared in a variety of ways. It is easy for egg stains to end up on a blouse or tablecloth. If you treat egg stains immediately with a vinegar solution, the mishap will no longer be visible.

Stubborn stains can also be caused by blueberries. You remove these stains from your hands with lemon juice. Lemon also helps on woolen textiles. The blue-violet stains disappear quickly.

Home Remedy No. 6: For Grease Stains

Whether cooking, baking or frying – grease stains are hard to avoid. Fortunately there are home remedies that absorb the grease. An effective absorbent is flour. With carbonated mineral water you remove grease stains from knit dresses and sweaters. No time to treat the grease stain immediately? Older grease stains can be removed by rubbing the stain with dishwashing detergent and then rinsing the textiles thoroughly.

Home Remedy No. 7: For Grass Stains

Not only children love the outdoors. As soon as it gets warmer after the long winter, we all head outside again. A long walk across blooming meadows, a picnic or sporting activities — grass stains are hard to avoid. You should never treat grass stains with water, as the stains then become harder to remove. For most fabrics, treatment with 70% alcohol helps. Allow the alcohol to act and then rinse with cold water.

Home Remedy No. 8: For Goulash Stains

Goulash stains are stubborn, but you can get rid of them. Simply apply dishwashing detergent to a damp cloth and rub the stains well. Because goulash stains are not easy to remove, you may need to repeat this process a few times.

Home Remedy No. 9: For Spinach Stains

Green is the color of hope. Many people’s favorite color, but not on clothing or table linens. You remove spinach stains quickly and easily by rubbing the affected areas with a raw potato.

Home Remedy No. 10: For Coffee Stains

Treat coffee stains on clothing or table linens immediately with cold salt water. On carpets, pour mineral water over the stain and blot the coffee stain dry.

Home Remedy No. 11: For Chocolate Stains

Chocolate is said to make you happy. Chocolate on laundry, however, makes you unhappy, because the stains often do not come out in the wash. A mixture of glycerin and egg yolk helps. Allow this paste to act and then rinse it out with warm water.

Various Home Remedies for Red Wine Stains

Salt
Salt is a true miracle in the fight against red wine stains. The stain is covered thickly with salt. The salt absorbs the moisture and the color. After the exposure time, the salt is vacuumed off the carpet. As an alternative to salt you can use starch.

Mineral water
You can also treat fresh red wine stains with carbonated mineral water.

Vinegar
Old, already dried-in red wine stains are best removed with vinegar. Apply vinegar to the affected areas, let it act, and blot with a cloth.

What to do about mold?

It usually starts with a small black spot, but mold quickly spreads throughout the room. Not only walls or the ceiling are affected by mold; wallpaper and furnishings, even pictures, discolor. Mold stains are harmful to health and must be removed.

If you decide against expensive, chlorine-containing mold removers, you can remove mold stains with household remedies.

Mold stains disappear with a solution of 20 parts water and one part ammonia solution. You can also pour lemon juice over the damp mold stain and sprinkle with salt. .

Baking powder – a versatile all-rounder for the household

One of the most effective and versatile home remedies in the fight against stains is baking powder. Stains on clothing, carpets, curtains, towels, bed linen, wallpaper, grease stains in the oven or limescale in the bathroom. Baking powder removes all kinds of stains effortlessly. Even stubborn sweat, perfume and make-up stains disappear with the help of baking powder.
You can also use baking powder to refresh colors. Above all, T-shirts and curtains develop an unattractive gray or yellow discoloration over time. However, you may only use baking powder for white and light textiles and fabrics. Baking powder has a bleaching effect and therefore must not be used on dark fabrics.
